Obviously after the events of the previous day, day 6 (September 19th) was a solemn day. It was decided that we continue forth in the morning. With the delays, we could not raise the sails and had to use the engines to reach our next destination on time.

After leaving Yakushima, we passed by Tanegashima. Unlike Yakushima, it is a flat lying island less than 300 m high. It is home to the JAXA Tanegashima Space Center. Someday, I would love to see a rocket take off from there.

Adjacent to Tanegashima is the small island of Mageshima. Historically no one has lived on this low elevation island. It is now being converted to a military base.

As the sun set, we captured a glimpse of Kyushu, though this was not a destination on this trip. Kyushu is my home, and an intriguing island. I do hope to share more stories on this blog about it in the future.
We continued with our water sampling, which included another late night. We also participated in an activity to reflect on what had happened and explore our feelings. A quiet day on the ship was fortuitous.
